You know, if everything feels dry in your life right now, perhaps it's not because you're doing too little but because you're neglecting the one thing that matters, God's presence. And so we move on to our last point. He says, "Rebuild." It's time to rebuild. verses 12 onwards says, "Then Zerubbabel the son of Shaliel and Joshua the son of Jehoshedak the high priest with all the remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the words of Hagai the prophet as the Lord their God had sent him and the people feared the Lord." God rebuilds by doing three things. First, he changes their hearts. Rebuilding begins with changed hearts. It says the verse the words that are they obeyed, they feared in verse 12. True rebuilding begins with repentance and reverence. Secondly, he promises his presence. He says uh he encourages them with the promise of his presence says I am with you. Uh in verse 13 says that Hagi the messenger of the lord spoke to the people with the lord's message. I am with you, declares the Lord. He's not going to let us do this all by our own salt. And then third, we read in verse 14, and the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel. And towards the end, it says that he stirred up the spirit of Joshua, the son of Nune. You know, he stirs up their spirits. God stirs up people's hearts and God rebuilds them. First the temple. It took them around four to five years to finish rebuilding the temple. It was completed so they can begin to experience his presence. Historically the temple was finished in 515 BC and later on by the time of Jesus you know king Herod even expanded the temple beautified it. But yet still that was not the ultimate fulfillment. The real temple that God is talking about was not the physical temple. It was Jesus Christ himself. In John 2:19, Jesus says, "Destroy this temple and I will build it back in three days." And he was talking about his own body. Because Jesus was Emmanuel, God with us. The God who was so far coming and being present localized in this small temple has now come to be with us in the person of Jesus Christ himself, our Emmanuel. His body was broken and rebuilt in three days and and he is he overcame death. He is alive and his holy spirit is now given to each one of you. And now you and I are s are called to have our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost. God nowadays doesn't just dwell in buildings. He dwells in the hearts of his children including you and me. And in the next chapter you read you will read that the ultimate fulfillment of this is going to come in revelations 21:3 the dwelling of God is with man where he is going to bring all nations to come and worship him and be in his presence forever and ever. You know Ed Clowney says this Christ is the true temple the true priest and the true sacrifice. We do not rebuild stones we become living stones. That's what you and I are called to be. Rebuilding anything begins by reconnecting with God and experiencing his presence in our lives. We think if we fix external things, we can rebuild. If I lose my job, let me upgrade my skill set. Let me just lose some weight and look great so I can be attractive to find that person that I'm looking for to be my spouse. Let me just get to the better school or a prominent school or a get a degree so I can be guaranteed of a secure life in the future for myself or my children. No matter how much gospel we believe, we still try to push this on our children, isn't it? How fake is that? It doesn't matter at that point how great your theology is that if you're still thinking this is what is really going to save you or your children's future. God says you can keep trying all that but I see your heart you can't trick me. If you neglect me wanting to be in your life none of those will matter. And Jesus says in Matthew seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you. Do you actually believe that my dear friends? to reme to rebuild your life. Remember God has already started that work. He who began that good work in you and me will bring it to completion. But he now expects you and me to be the light in this world around us to rebuild what is broken around us. Our broken worlds, our schools, our workplaces, our neighborhoods. Do you see the ruins? Do you see the brokenness? God's not wanting us to build a temple in those places. You and I are the temple of God to be the light to those people around them. If you don't see physical brokenness, just talk to your colleagues over a break. Ask them how are they doing and they will tell you stories of brokenness in their lives, in their marriages, the struggles they face with their children or or or those who are expecting and not having children or people who have lost loved ones or in grief. There are so many ruins that God is calling you and I to go and rebuild. Or maybe you have friends in your school or colleges who are making wrong choices about relationships and need help. or look around your neighborhoods and see what are the ruins in my neighborhoods. The schools, the homelessness, the foster care needs. There's just so many ruins around us. If we experience God's presence, his spirit is living in us. God is calling you and I to move us to go and rebuild this place around us to bring God's presence into his life. So, as I close, let me share a few points of application. If you're wondering, how do I begin rebuilding? Reconnect with God's presence. Remember, rebuilding starts with repentance and seeking God's presence. Worship comes before work, not the other way around. Don't try to tweak this to fit into that. Reorder your priorities. Are you putting your comfort above your calling? Is your home taking precedence over his house? Respond with obedience. Obedience is the trigger for revival. Fear of the Lord brings alignment. Rely on God's promise. You don't have to do it alone. He says, "I am with you is the power that sustains your rebuilding." And realize the bigger story. You know, your small act of obedience is part of God's eternal plan to dwell with his people befitting his eternal covenant. So, rebuild your priorities. Are you building a resume but neglecting your soul? Haga invites you to reorder your priorities. Put God's presence at the center. Your spiritual life isn't an accessory. It's the foundation. Respond when God stirs your heart. You know, God stirred the spirit of the people. Pay attention when the Holy Spirit prompts you. Whether that's a call to serve, a call to confess, a call to repent, return to worship, or a call to rebuild your faith habits. Reframe what success means by the presence of God. You know, the people worked hard but felt empty. Success isn't defined by achievements alone, but by obedience and intimacy with God. Are you full of activity, but far from God? Real success is his I am with you. And for those of you with young children, build your home around worship and not just walls. Your family calendar can tell you what the chaos looks like. Have you ever looked at your family calendar and realized there's just no space left? Soccer, dentist, homework, work meetings, Costco runs, everything is scheduled except rest, prayer, or reflection. God's recall through Hagai is a call to consider your ways. If our calendars are filled but our souls are empty, it's time to return to the rhythm of grace to make space for God again in your lives and invite God's presence every day into your life. You know, the presto temple wasn't just for Israel. It was for God's glory to shine to the nations. Let your family be a witnessing temple, a place of refuge, kindness, gospel hope. Invite someone over to your home and share with them the love of joy and peace that God has blessed you with. Let's pray.
